Flattery Will Get You...

Nowhere? Everywhere? How does that saying go? Eh, whatever. Here, flattery will get you more posts from me.

Everything is different. We live in Hawaii now, which is definitely a topic for future exploration. Xander is officially a math prof. He spends his time researching stuff none of us understand, writing (and getting!) grants, teaching students calculus, going to committee meetings, etc. But mostly it's just going to meetings, I think, which makes it pretty much like any other job. Except it's in Hawaii. Hawaii!

I had given up the blog because I have been looking for a job. Hard. For months. But if you live in the US, you know how that story goes. (Still no job.) I worried about the blog impeding my job search, either from taking up too much of my time or for making me look like an idiot. It turns out it doesn't matter if I look like an idiot. There are hardly any jobs to apply for in my field, so why not write to take up all this free time? Now if only someone would pay me for it...

Since we're on the subject, on the off chance you stumbled across my parcel of Internetland because you're reading my job application, you should totally hire me. I am amazing. Okay, I'm just a regular person, really. But I work my ass off. And I'm a good researcher and know lots of people, so even if I don't know how to do something you need me to do, chances are I can find out how with a few keystrokes. Resourceful. That's it. I work hard and I'm resourceful. Also, I brew beer and bake delicious things, and sometimes I give those things to people I work with.

One last thing. Please don't judge me because I like to start sentences with words like "and" and "so" and "but." I won't do it at work. I swear. Unless you need me to, in which case I will start sentences incorrectly better than anyone you've ever met.

Good luck on your job search... and Hawaii... how lucky is that? We're vacationing in HI this summer but not moving there. Nope. Still in Nebraska because who wouldn't rather live in Nebraska?

Do you know this blog? http://nyctaughtme.blogspot.com/2011/08/wanted-ad.html She posted a job wanted ad on her blog and it seems to have actually gotten her a lot. The trick seems to have cute kids (you got that) and go viral (maybe a little trickier).

Alana, we ARE going to Oahu. Early June. I'll email you when the date is closer! I'm always up for a tropical drink. :)

I know several people who have managed to make some money via their blog. Find a good topic, get a lot of followers and companies will seek you out.
